Hi. It’s Helena.
I know it’s been awhile and I owe you a tape.
So, here it is.
Remembering the last time we talked, and talked about a shipwreck and how I said that’s what memory is to me.
my memory like a shipwreck;
turning over pieces from life that bob in the water in the dark,
hoping to find one whole,
or not hoping for anything;
instead, in the cold water the numbs me, I’m confronted with the shade of a lamp
(i know it from that room he rented);
as I turn away, there’s a friend i once knew,
floating, face down, in the bright red sweater i knew her to wear
(Amelia); these things that were once functional, or living signs of my life that was…
and knowing that as soon as the night ends and i am rescued,
i will leave whatever or whoever it is behind forever -
i will have to -
the ties torn like tendons,
Or joints ripped from their sockets.
a cost of survival is having no one left to remember;
another is having to remember,
another cost of survival is simply - to survive.
Anyway.
These are a collection of beats and tapes and songs I’ve written recently. Maybe they’ll give you a better idea of what I’ve been doing all this time.
